Sorry to bum you out, but the government is about to meddle in your can, of beer that is. The U.S. Senate is proposing large increases in federal liquor taxes, and it is going to hit us right in our wallet and glasses.
The move is the government's answer to help pay for the rising cost of healthcare, especially for teh millions of uninsured. As part of the proposal, the tea-totallers are not safe either. The government is wants to hike the cost of a can of cola with a soda pop tax for soft drinks.
What can we do? Well as I see it we have two choices. We can either go Boston Tea Party style and dump beer in the Boston Harbor, but that's a waste of perfectly good, and increasingly expensive, beer.
Or the more sane option, we can write our representatives. Use this Website and find your the names of your local Congressperson, and Senator. Click on the map your state, and email them or call them.

It had to happen sooner or later. They been hammering the smokers for years.Now it the drinkers turn. As for me, I quit giving them smokes and booze money years ago. Not only that, I live better ,feel better.Next tax will be on greasy high cholestral foods.

The Government says they are helping us. On one hand they are giving up help but on the other they are taking twice as much. We get to suffer for their spending and all their perks and we hang and starve to make ends come together. This government does not know how to "NOT OVER SPEND" They will Bankrupt the US and they will have their millions stashed away and live comfortably. This government does not care about the people only itself. Every day there are more corrupt officials being found, it's our money that they have.

I think they should penalize the DOCTORS and DRUG COMPANIES for raping the American people with their huge fees and drug costs. And on top of that, doctors, as well as hospitals, report trumped up fees when dealing with insurance companies, thus making insurance rates higher for everyone. They rake in tons of money per year and still want more. It would benefit everyone if those money hungry morons would freeze prices or even lower them. It seems the middle class tax paying public is always being soaked for more taxes due to the indescretion of fat cats who care for noone but themselves.

it's about time!! alcohol kills,maims,injures and causes more damage in a years' time than cigarettes do so drinkers should be taxed as heavily if not more so than smokers!

It's about damned time! For years smokers have been taxed heavily with the last increase just a couple months ago. But alcohol hasn't been touched. Why? Because the majority of the politicians drink!! Just on what Ted Kennedy drinks, they could make a fortune in taxes! More power to 'em, I quit smoking and don't drink so they won't be getting money out of me for these two things.

i love how people just accept this...so let me get this straight..people can be on welfare have multiple children they can not afford... so my tax dollars are paying for there free healthcare...so in united states, when you work hard pay your bills and taxes, you are slapped in the face, but you can be dirt poor, i mean so poor you can't even pay your bills for yourself..but low and behold you can have children and the more children you have the more money you get from working peoples taxes..and you get free healthcare...wow..it is a very lazy counrty.

They have the gaul to say we voted them in, well we vote for the lesser of the evils running. That's right, blame OBama for this too. Many people seem to forget that the past 8 years of Bush and his phony "war" has almost ran this country into bankruptcy. It appears as if the GOP and it's supporters have a VERY short memory. Whether you like it or not, this country can't operate without taxes. And those who hold that over our heads with the monotonous mantra, "liberal raise taxes, liberals raise taxes", are just using scare tactics, just like Bush and Co. has done us for almost a decade. Even though taxes are necessary in our form of government, this new tax proposal is targeting a specific cross section of America, and sparing others. If anything, I think the Wall Street tycoons, big business CEO's , Big Pharma, and other billionaires who have taken advantage of the bailouts should be made to pay them back due to their indescrimate and frivolous spending. It is a travesty to think these people take tax payer money and use it as a form of recreation. Something is definitely wrong with this picture!

Have you ever noticed that the Democrats always promise to screw the "Rich" when they are running for office, then end up screwing EVERYBODY once they get elected? Like it or not, Bush's tax cuts helped everybody. "Rich" and "Poor" alike. But Obama's tax increases won't hurt his rich Hollywood pals as much as they will hurt the rest of us. Hope and Change? There is a lot people can do, vote the idiots out of office. The civil unrest caused by Obama's promised changes get worse each and everyday. The participation at the Tea Parties attendence was down played by the press. Most left wing newspapers, Like the Palm Beach Post stated they were hundreds instead of thousands in attendance. The demonstrations at Obama's speaking egagements are on the rise, but again or not reported by our Left Wing Press. Just about every change for the better he promised has been a change to the worse. Taxes are on the rise, not in single digets but in the tripple digeits, unemployment is at a all time high, stock market is in the dumps, in just four months I have lost half of my future 401 retirement benifits. I am lucky some people lost all of their benifits because of the closure of their plants and the loss of their jobs. What can we expect in the near future? The strong civilian force,he intends to organize, will be on the streets to inforce Obama's plans to strip us of our constitunitional rights. Yes, Obama was for change, but not what the average American wants.

If second hand smoke is harmful then shouldn't there be something to be said about second hand drinking? The drunk driver can take out several lives in just one accident. WHEREAS second hand smoke may or may not cause you to get sick or die. Level the playing field with the drinkers and smokers!!!

if the millions of uninsured woudl get off their butt and work we would not have this, I am tired of paying for all the poeple coming here from other countries using our welfare etc.....I have no issue if you want to come here but hell go to work I do........tired of all the taxes.....
